SowProsper: Empowering Women in Sustainable Livelihoods

Location: Blantyre (Blantyre Urban, T/A Kunthembwe, T/A Kapeni and T/A Somba)

Project Goal

To enhance economic opportunities and alleviate poverty among women and youth, particularly those from the marginalized communities, by addressing gender-based inequalities and discriminatory practices in Blantyre

Objectives

  • To enhance the economic empowerment of women and girls in Blantyre District, fostering financial independence and sustainable livelihoods
  • To foster community engagement and collaboration by consulting with local traditional leaders and government agricultural extension workers for participant identification.
  • To promote sustainable agricultural practices among women farmers through the utilization of pig dung as supplementary fertilizer

Key Activities & Achievements

  • Conduct training sessions on livestock production and pig management, business management and leadership skills.
  • Provide technical knowledge to 225 members from 15 groups on pig fattening, breeding, and health management
  • Purchase of 60 piglets and distribution to 15 groups Formulation of the piggery women clubs
  • Encourage and monitor/guide group members in constructing their own kraals and the use of pig dung as use of mature.
  • Carry out project monitoring visits and documentation
